Writer's Biography

Originally graduating in science from Monash University, Australia, this ex-punk rocker and one time police man on the popular Australian television series 'Blue Heelers', is now a travel writer. A jet-set vagabond and citizen of the world, Aaron is a professional drifter, part time card shark, scuba dive master and yoga teacher. An out of work truck driving actor, table waiting musician and barman philosopher, he is a general dog's body Jack of all trades who currently works in Brazil as an English teacher. Currently he is in and out of the Amazon Jungle researching his next book about shamanic tourism and is still searching for Elvis.

Laos: Slow Boat Down the Mekong River - Story by Aaron Smith

Five hours north of Chang Mai in Northern Thailand on the Mekong River, bordering Laos, is Chang Kong. This is the Golden Triangle which, in its heyday, was the black market capital of opium production. The black tar is still here and offered to tourists on whispered breathe on street corners by predatory tuk tuk drivers. Those curious should tread carefully, as the police are often not far behind. Hefty fines, bribes or worse still, the hang man's noose, await those fallen to the fold.
