Writer's Biography

Lisa Kirchner graduated with a degree in journalism from The Ohio State University and has worked as a writer ever since. Naturally she's made her living in PR and marketing. While working at various times for the Columbus Museum of Art, The Andy Warhol Museum, Ketchum Public Relations and Carnegie Mellon University, her articles have appeared in dialogue: arts in the midwest, The Other Paper, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pulp and Pittsburgh Magazine. She was simultaneously a religion editor for an LGBT pub, the bridal editor for a society magazine and the dating columnist for an alt weekly. In 2004 she moved to Qatar where she directs marketing and public relations for Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar.

Dee extolled the virtues of tomorrow's walk to the five of us huddled around the table.

"You'll want to make sure everything's sealed so it doesn't get wet when you're pushing the boat." The fun didn't end there. The boat ride would end in an 8km slog through a leech-infested jungle.

"The leeches from the ground are just your normal ones, but watch out for the canopy. Tiger leeches, you'll know them by the light stripe on their backs, they sting a bit. Don't try to pick them off when they're drinking or you'll bleed uncontrollably."
