Writer's Biography

Michelle Ong graduated from the University of Texas-Austin with a Bachelor of Arts in English and History. Shortly after graduating, she underwent training to teach ESL in Sofia, Bulgaria and has recently worked as an English teacher in Malang, East Java for 9 months. She has previously published a series of historical and culture-based articles for the Houston Institute of Culture. Having traveled to 20 countries, she hopes to beat her father's record.

A small village, Cemoro Lawang, graces a small slope and overlooks Bromo, Mount Semeru at a distance, Mount Batok and Mount Pananjakan. The people who reside here are predominantly Hindu, small offerings left on the ground reminiscent of Bali. Life here follows a relaxed pace, some hotels and tour companies comprise the larger buildings and a few shops selling hats, scarves, gloves and basic necessities.
